MISSION COMPLETED

'You are not a man if you have not been to the Great Wall' - so the saying goes in China.

WE DID IT!!! and there were literally 1000's and 1000's of steps! We had an amazing experience and loved every minute. The Great Wall  is one of the most amazing constructions in the world today - known in China as The Ten Thousand Li Wall, it zigzags over 6300ks from east to west over the undulating terrain of northern China, and took tens of millions of people to construct over a period of more than 2000 years.

On behalf of Teens Unite Fighting Cancer we would like to thank you all for supporting us, whether it was by donation, helping us raise money, or just by giving us the mental support and good wishes we needed to complete the venture. The fundraising itself and the challenge of the trek has truly broadened our horizons.  We have raised nearly £5,000 between us and this has made it all so, so worthwhile.

We've written a full account of the 10-day trek, which is just too long to incude here, but you can read this on www.teensunitefightingcancer.org/index.php?aid=171 - you can always just skim thru and get an idea of what it was all about. There are also a good selection of photos which show how steep most of it was and the terrain we covered - you may notice that some of them were not taken on the Wall, and they show some of the experiences we enjoyed in China just before the trek began.

We have learned that the Chinese are not religious but superstitious, not military but political, very proud of their history, sort out their problems the Confucius way, welcoming to tourist, but most of all warm, enthusiastic and friendly - and we take home the memory of the local Chinese in the park ballroom dancing complete with gowns, kite flying, tai chi with bat and ball, sword and stakes, formation dancing, keep fit, knitting, hat making, dominos, cards and feather football - wanting us to join in, and so we did.

Thank you all so much for your support

'It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop' - Confucius 551BC-479BC
