Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the Cerebral Palsy Research Fund. Please dig deep and sponsor online.
I started the fund in 2004 to fund research into cures for cerebral palsy after my son, Colin, was left permanently brain damaged due to medical negligence at his birth. My first fundraising event was a Guy Fawkes Ball. It was a great success and thanks to the generosity of supporters we raised over £4,500 for Cerebral Palsy Research. Other successful fundraising events include a Stars in Your Eyes evening, a Back to the 80's Night and a Charity Football Match.
There was an item on Stem Cell research on The One Show (http://bbc.co.uk/i/qr0wn/) recently. Great progress has been made since I started fundraising six years ago. Scientists at Newcastle University, working in conjunction with the Centre for Life, have successfully shown, that when [umbilical cord] stem cells are injected into the brain they can promote repair of brain injuries caused at birth (like in Colin's case) or in premature babies. They have tracked stem cells to the site of the injury where they boost repair of damaged nerve fibre pathways. Motor skills can improve significantly as a result. I am very lucky to have the support of the Children's Foundation. All the money raised is used to support research being done by Newcastle University Scientists and the Centre for Life.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor: The Cerebral Palsy Research Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Every little helps so please sponsor now!
Thank you so much for your anticipated support
