Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was 50 years old on November 1, 2011 and decided that l wanted to do something to mark my 50th year and raise funds for an amazing charity that is very close to my heart - The Genesis Research Trust.
I was originally supposed to do the Challenge on my 51st birthday (November 1, 2012) but, due to redundancy (again!) and relocation back from Yorkshire to Shropshire, the cycle ride was moved to 2013 and the location changed. So - l will now be cycling around Sri Lanka - approximately 260 miles over 6 days from September 27 and l need to raise a minimum of £3,500! All donations, gratefully received, so far, have been moved across to the new Challenge.
The reason for choosing this Charity to ride for is due to the fact that I am lucky enough to have two healthy daughters, but have suffered many miscarriages in the past and know how devastating this was to my family and friends. I also have great friends who have suffered miscarriage too, lost a child while giving birth, lost a child due to a genetic disorder, given birth to a disabled child and, sadly, one's who are not able to have children at all.
Professor Robert Winston is the most amazing man and is constantly pushing the boundaries of medical knowledge to improve women's health and the incidence of healthy pregnancy.
These are the statistics:
1 in 18 babies in the UK is born prematurely.
1 in 4 babies are miscarried
1 in 175 babies is stillborn
4370 women die of ovarian cancer each year
1 in 10 women suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
I am cycling for his charity to raise funds for more scientists and clinicians to specialise in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause genetic diseases, miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, brain damage, cancer and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Please support me and sponsor me for this worthwhile cause.
If you donate through JustGiving it is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. It is the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Any amount you can give, for what l am trying to achieve, would be brilliant - thank you so much, in advance, for your generosity and support - it really means alot. XX.
Lots of love
