Great South Run 2008 · 26 October 2008 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thursday 26th October 2008 I will be running 10 miles for the Stroke Association.

To say athleticism doesn't come naturally to me would be something of an understatement. Anyone who knows me will probably know that dragging myself round 10 miles of Portsmouth will not come easily. But since no-one seemed keen to cough up for a sponsored curl up with a book and a nice cup of tea, hopefully this will tell you how important this cause is to me.

Strokes are the third most common cause of death in the UK. It's also a leading cause of disability with more than 250,000 people in the UK living with disabilities caused by a stroke. The Stroke Association's main focus is to prevent stroke and to give support to people who have had a stroke and their families through their information and rehabilitation and support services. They also do important research in stroke prevention and treatment, and campaign to raise awareness of strokes.

Huge huge thank you to anyone sponsoring me - if nothing else, you should get your moneys worth in entertainment value!
