Kens Tribute Fund

Skydive/walk/coffee morning/disco · 29 July 2012
Not long after celebrating his 30th birthday, my son Ken,
went to the dentist with what he thought was an abcess. The dentist was very concerned and refered him straight away to hospital for further investigation. After two inconclusive biopsies, the third one confirmed diagnosis of osteosarcoma in his jaw. Six intense cycles of chemotherapy were advised to be followed by major surgery. Ken had serious complications after each cycle of chemo, so his consultant advised surgery after just three cycles. In November 2012 Ken underwent major surgery (including bone graft and reconstruction of his jaw). Ken astounded the medical team by recovering from the surgery in record time and in February 2013 his scan was clear and the future looked bright. Just 2 months later in April 2013 having had ear ache, his consultant
advised another scan, ‘just to make sure the cancer is not back’. It
was back with a vengeance and far more aggressive. It was terminal. Ken had 6 to 12 months to live. Ken fought to the very last moment but on 26th July 2014, he went to be with the Lord.
Kens passions included Liverpool F.C, fast cars, singing on karaoke
and spitfires. Most of all he loved his family and being ‘the joker’
which was evident right to the end. Ken was always thinking of others first, and from the moment of diagnosis, the effect on his loved ones was his main concern (He did have a little vain streak and initially liked the attention ). Having never heard of bone cancer before I contacted BCRT soon after Ken's diagnosis. Such a rare cancer doesnt recieve funding so every penny raised is vital for continued research.

Triathlon and BBQ
6th May 2015 Its been along time since I have been on this page. Sadly Ken passed away on 26th July 2014 and, until now I have not felt able to think about the £10,000 for Ken that I planned to raise for Bone Cancer Research Trust. But as I was thinking of his coming first anniversary of his death, and how or what I want to do. Then it came to me that a fundraising event for BCRT would be good idea. Initially I was thinking of just myself doing something, but now its becoming quite a day so I decided to revisit '10 4 Ken' and here I am.
On morning of 25th July 2015 I will be doing a tri athalon, (well that is a walk, then cycle and then swim in sea). The route I will post on here shortly but it will be in Cornwall. The afternoon and evening there will be a BBQ and fun games etc to help raise more money.
I am planning to make this an annual event on the closest Saturday to the 26th July. Ken knew so many peopl and was so loved that I dont want anyone to feel left out. So if any old friends, work colleagues, school mates etc. wish to mark the day in anyway in their local area please do join our team and lets hit the £10,000.00 for BCRT in memory of my dear Son, Ken.
I will be uploading photos of me in training and regular updates. (Should be some amusing ones!).
Hi All
Well the skydive day didnt turn out quite as expected. THe day was perfect conditions and we arrived on time and very mixed feelings! Excitement, trepedation and nervous but we stay focused on why we were there. So we go to sign in and part of my paperwork needed a stamp from my doctor. I was so upset and ended up driving around to various doctors etc that my daughter was contacting in the area to see if it could be sorted. Very upsetting start but a lesson learnt for me! Always make sure all i's dotted and t's crossed. (I usually very good at that sort of thing). ANyway, Stu and Noemie had the briefing and had decided they would jump from 15000 feet instead of 10000!! While they were waiting we chatted and enjoyed the sunshine and they drew on their hands 10 4 KEN so it would show up on the dvd and photos. Ken was very much in the forefront of our thoughts and conversation. I ended up really enjoying the day and wa so proud of Stu and Noemie and seeing how happy they were to have raised so much for Bone Cancer Research Trust was heartwarming.
Beck and Byron did a 10k run and Beck has a page on justgiving too so please do keep an eye on hers too. :-)
My Mum is amazing and in Spetember I joined her at Hyde Park to do 10k walk to rasie awareness and funds for Oral Cancer. Well Done Mum!! I will add photo to this page as although this for £10,000 for 10 4 Ken, any cancer is devestating and originally Ken was refered to Oral Cancer specialist. The £500 Mum raised will not count towards this page balance but Mum definitley deserves a mention. :-)
Ken has had many complications with each cycle of chemo and now has to give himself an injection into his stomache everyday to thin his blood as he has had blood clots too. Ken continues to be positive and upbeat as does his amazing wife Naomi. His sons Jamie and Lucas bring much sunshine into his life and every moment at home gives him a real boost, especially now Lucas starting to chatter away. :-)
So whats next on our agenda! Well Stu is going to grow beard and moustache!!! (He doesnt have much facial hair so who knows how long it will take!). I have collected a huge amount of bits and pieces from family members to do a car boot sale, (think I will have enough to do a few!) and my Mum is planning a coffee morning in November.
We will keep coming up with fund raising events and welcome any ideas. (Within reason! lol).
I will let you know when I am doing the South Downs Way walk which will be before Christmas.
Thanks to everyone for support and encouragement and I am sorry I so rubbish at regular updates.

My son Ken is 30 years old, married to Naomi and they have 2 sons, Jamie age 5 and Lucas 15 months. Within 10 days after attending the dentist with what he thought was tooth ache he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and has just finished week 1 of a 5 week course of Chemotherapy and he will require 6 times the 5 week course as its a particularly aggressive form.
As its a relatively rare form of cancer research is limited. The Bone Cancer Research Trust is having an awareness week from 6th to 13th October and our tea, 10 4 ken will be doing various challenges and fud raising events which I will post on here as they are confirmed. In the meantime along with some family members and friends will be doing a Skydive, baking biscuits and having coffee mornings.
