Story
On 27th June 2009 our group started the ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. The group comprised Andrew Johnson, David Johnson, Stewart Johnson, Ian Lockett, Adam Lunn, Vince Lunn and Kieran Wint. We were supported by Vic Alfrey, Michael Freeman and Brian Johnson.
The ride took 13 days finishing on Thursday 9th July. We cycled a total of 1000 miles with daily stages ranging from 52 miles to 100 miles. Full details of the ride can be found on our own website www.a1000milesformacmillan.co.uk . We also have a daily blog that you can access through that site showing what we actually got up to each day.
As part of the build up to the ride we completed a 24 hour ride on static training bikes at Camberley Rugby Football Club. This took place from 5 pm on Friday 13th March. We had four static bikes, three for our team and one for guest riders. We aimed to complete 1,000 miles between us in this 24 hour period but actually rode 1,510 miles! A fantastic achievement by all concerned. Our thanks go to Camberley Rugby Football Club and its members who provided fantastic support during this ride and to all the guest riders who added valuable miles.
We have also held a charity cricket match between the Anchor, Yateley and Camberley Rugby Club, raising £250.
Our last event was a Family Fun day at the Prince of Wales in Fleet. The weather was kind to us, a good time was had by one and all and we raised £785 on the day. A big thank you to all concerned.
We are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Almost everyone will have lost close friends or relatives to cancer. The work that Macmillan do is invaulable in supporting not just patients but also their families. Please help us to reach our target by sponsoring us - every little helps.
Thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated by all of us.
