Story

In the current climate, non-coronavirus charities are seeing less donations. With partners and parents being excluded from hospitals and people having to birth alone, never has the support for people experiencing birth trauma been more needed.

Just over 18 months ago, I underwent an emergency c-section due to a catastrophic haemorrhage, leaving me with PTSD. My youngest son Griffin was taken to Princess Anne in Southampton for life saving treatment; we both nearly died. After this, I turned to the Birth Trauma Association for help, and found an amazing level of support and advice.

The Birth Trauma Association is seeking to fundraise to expand their scope of support - training additional peer supporters offering support via email, with a look towards implementing the infrastructure for telephone support.  This level of support would be invaluable to families wishing to have assistance on their journey towards healing.

Last year, my husband and I walked from our house in Dorchester to the sea in Weymouth - a distance of 17km - while babywearing our then 2 year old and 8 month old. We raised £831 which went a really long way towards training new peer supporters and exploring telephone and live chat support options.

This year, my husband Joe and I would like to ask for your help again in making a difference to the lives of parents suffering with mental health issues after a bad birth experience. This year, we are hoping to *RUN* 168km in June and July between us - that's the round trip Griffin took in his ambulance, alone, to save his life.
