2014kx365 Karen Cooper - Emmaus Bristol - for Sarge

2014k x 365 challenge · 1 January 2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Emmaus Bristol JustGiving page.
In June 2013 a brilliant man Gordon Sargent (Sarge) was suddenly taken from my lovely godmother Ann Sargent. He had touched the hearts of so many people over the years and was extremely generous. I wanted to raise money for a charity he & Ann would have chosen. Ann told me a story of the time Sarge saw a homeless man and bought him a pasty. He didn't just walk by & ignore him, like so many people do. That's just one example of how generous and thoughtful he was.
Ann thought a Bristol based charity would be apt. The last time I saw Sarge was when he & Ann came to stay with us in May at our then house which was just around the corner from the Emmaus house in St Phillips. A good memory. And we think he would have approved of the ethos of Emmaus. Helping people to help themselves and build themselves a better future.
A charity for the homeless is also something that I had thought about raising money for before too. There is a huge problem in Bristol and it saddens me when I see people in doorways. By supporting a charity such as Emmaus I hope to see fewer people on the streets knowing they are being helped in positive ways.
