20 Thousand Pennies for 20 Thousand Feet

20 Thousand Feet · 6 November 2016
Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside the Himalaya range, towering as high as 6,959m/22,830ft. Although climbing it is technically easy, challenging weather and the sheer hight make Aconcagua a formidable foe.
Ever since I knew I was going on this trip, I wanted to seize the opportunity of this once-in-a-life-time adventure to raise money for a charity. Countless ones deserve support, but ultimately I decided to choose a local Bristol charity: Caring in Bristol
Caring in Bristol helps the homeless in our city every way they can, be it finding temporary accommodation or growing vegetables in allotments to give to people who go hungry day in and day out.
The number of homeless people has risen dramatically over the last few years. As stated by the national charity for homless people Crisis "In 2015 Government statistics showed that 3,569 people slept rough on any one night across England - this is over double the number counted in 2010"
I have a well paid job, a car, I live in a nice house and can afford nights out at the pub or a meal at a good restaurant. And I can afford to travel halfway around the world to climb mountains. A pure luxury to be able to pursue such an exciting hobby.
But other people in our wonderful city are not so fortunate. They don't have a car, a job and some don't even have a place they can call home.
That's why I decided to raise a penny for every foot I'm climbing on Aconcagua to support the homeless in Bristol! A penny is not much, but 20,000 pennies ARE!
Plus: For every £10 raised I will spend (at least) an hour volunteering for the charity. With Christmas and the cold months coming up just before my trip, I am more than happy to help where I can.
Every donation is very welcome. A penny, a pound or whatever you're willing to give. Tell your friends and families and share my page everywhere you like.
