Story

Katy & Tom will be spending 24 hours in a car together. During this 24 hours, neither of them will be permitted to leave the car for any purpose. Katy will be driving the car to various locations & a selection of challenges within the car will be attempted. Should anyone want to set us a challenge to complete within the car please offer us a pledge & we will try our very best to complete your challenge! The challenge will commence at 10am Thursday April 6th & end at 10am Friday April 7th.

Please dig deep & sponsor us for this challenge. All money raised will be equally split between The British Beekeepers' Association and also our local forest school - Babes in The Wood/Be More Outdoors at Slaithwaite. We will be accepting individual pledges should anyone want to set us a specific task.

Throughout the 24 hours we will try our very best to keep you all updated with our shenanigans. We will be filming & photographing as much as we can & we will also attempt to live stream via Facebook live. If anyone would like to join us in the car for a short stint please leave a comment on our Facebook event page!

Why Bees? - Bees are in danger of disappearing from our environment. Farming practices continue to disturb natural habitats and forage of solitary and bumblebees at a rate which gives them little chance for re-establishment. The honey bee is under attack from the varroa mite and it is only the treatment and care provided by beekeepers that is keeping colonies alive. Most wild honey bee colonies have died out as a result of this disease. Bees are pollinators vital to our food chain. One third of the food we eat would not be available but for bees so we need to help save them - NOW!

Be More Outdoors/Babes in the Wood -
The Babes in the Woods Family Forest School has been running in Slaithwaite since Summer 2011. It began as a partnership between Marsden and Slaithwaite Renaissance and Slaithwaite Playgroup and Toddlers (SPLAT) but grew into a Community Group in its own right. The project has been at the heart of the provision offered by Be More Outdoors and was the springboard for the launching of Be More Outdoors as a registered charity. Sessions currently run on Friday mornings between 9.45am and 11.45am during term time with additional family sessions at weekends and in the holidays.
The aim of Forest Schools is to facilitate the engagement of individuals with the outdoors and promote personal development.
Through an initial phase of group work and introductory activities then by building routine and trust, participants become increasingly confident and competent in the setting and acquire skills that are transferable to the classroom and life in general.
Throughout a Forest School programme, participants will:
» Acquire skill with tools and knowledge of woodland crafts
» Develop a sense of environmental responsibility
» Use tools and fire safely
» Set small achievable goals to help promote self esteem
» Take risk both physical and emotional in a managed environment
» Gain in confidence, independence and communication skills
» Improve reflective practice
