Story

Please also see our second sponsorship page and how we're doing there...

The Road to Flora (Marathon) - Sunday 22nd April sees a test of mental and physical stamina, of desire, determination and a tenacious will to reach... for what is just a tub of margarine at the end of the day - isn't it just madness!

Be a part of the Road to Flora ... in supporting us, you will be helping those for whom everyday is a superhuman effort. The 656 muscles that we each have, do everything from enabling our lungs to breathe, our hearts to beat, we’re able to smile, walk and RUN ... precisely what Pascale will be doing, whilst at the same time raising vital funds for our chosen charity, which is driving forward the relentless search for a clinical product to cure Muscular Dystrophy and drive research forward - PPUK - Parent Project UK website.

They say Flora is really good for you, but rarely will you have seen so many red faced sweaty individuals in such a high concentration than at an event such as this, 26 point 2 miles - I say "Taxi".

I'm doing this page (Pas tells me it's "the easy bit") (yep!! but my pingey has done so many many clicks now) on behalf of our superstar Pascale who is running for PPUK, it's her first Marathon. Now whilst I may be prepared and almost able to run 22 yards and sometimes even back again, in a game of cricket, twenty-six miles really is quite unnecessary level of activity in my opinion - clearly the reason why I elected to get someone only a whisker younger than I to participate in this spectacularly desperate display of fitness mixed with copious quantities of, well it has to be stupidity - I mean it's not that I couldn't do it, but you know everybody has to have their moment, even if it is panting and sweating - in equal and profuse quantities!

Slow and steady wins the race, I'm told, but to check the pedigree of Pascale (nee Fernee) click here and ignoring the record her dad set just for a moment, her Dad's still a loser, coming in third, but s'pose I do concede, at a push, that he did alright - blissfully, like his daughter, he's still quicker than me to the kebab van and back - sorted! As distinct from the Lords cricket charity event which nearly kills me every year, I can't claim to suffer all means of physical and mental pain for days before and months afterwards, but Pascale is now so fast to the local chip shop (sorry training) that her husband Tim and I did get a nasty burn off the last lot of chips - that are now returning to the house really piping hot - so long may that particular torture continue!

FLEX YOUR MUSCLES BY DONATING ONLINE TODAY ... please share this secure web-link with as many of your business associates, friends and family as possible. Just 200 donations of say £50 or 400 donations of £25 will ensure our justgiving fundraising thermometer is ... pushed well off the scale!

YOU GUYS:

***!!! NewsFlash !!!*** - ABBEY have agreed to double up to £3,500 that is collected - so by sponsoring us, not only have you been a part of the Road to Flora 2007 ... but in supporting us, as it stands, after Abbey doubling and tax claimed back, we have currently all raised:

£3,473.11

it's their best interest rate to date - what a fantastic effort thus far, just how far can we go?!?...

So we're hopeful that you are just seconds away from helping fund the ongoing clinical trials which last 4 years and are going well thus far. Encouragingly there are however many research threads (and so hopefully ways to crack the nut) for what is a complex condition to crack, all the research operates at the forefront of biogenomics and genetic medicine and the current clinical trials has stemmed from our own shores and has been driven from the UK - now how about that!

"We" want to be able to deliver an amelioration at least, to the worst ravages of the condition, so another generation of children is not lost so hugely prematurely.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page, whether a friend, colleague, pupil acquaintance, Cats Country Club customer past or present, or a member of the Priory Sailing Club, please sponsor our brilliant runner Pascale online and whilst you do, remember this - the more you sponsor her the faster she runs. The faster she runs, the more she aches - you are quite literally buying a share in the bodily pain of Pascale - what could be more satisfying and important these days?!?

Further, she has pledged that if we can raise enough money, she will be doing a lap of honour - thus far, never yet seen at a London Marathon! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Parent Project UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support, we believe that ultimately you'll be saving lives with your kindness.

Colin & Mandy.. Xx..
