On the 8th July 2011, 2 rival teams will attempt to complete the 3 peaks 24 hour challenge. The challenge is to climb, and travel between, the tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. The distance walked is around 25 miles, the height climbed is around 10,000 feet, and the distance to be covered between the mountains is 450 miles. The challenge is exhilarating yet demanding and tests the climber’s physical and mental ability to the limit.
Team members participating in the challenge are Paul Smith, Paul Midgley, Ian Waldie, James Waldie, Jonathan Turton, Phil Dixon, Marios Demetriou and Stuart Sykes with further climbers to follow.
The challenge has been organised to help raise money for the Wakefield Hospice. The hospice offers specialist palliative care for patients, families and carers providing the highest level of symptom management and care for people who have advanced active, progressive and life threatening illnesses.
