Story
In October last year my uncle Adie was diagnosed with cancer. He had been unwell for a few months and doctors were unable to tell him exactly what was wrong. He was a strong man who most of his working life worked as a doorman and security at gigs and festivals. Some of his proudest moments were meeting boxing champion Carl Frampton and doing security at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast. He loved it. Sadly Adie died on the 10th of December. He was only 49 years old. We were all devastated.
Ever since I have been trying to think of a way to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. I found out a few months ago the contract in my current job was coming to an end in September. I thought to myself this is the perfect opportunity to do something however not quite sure how I come up with this challenge.
On the 4th of October I will embark on a 900 mile walk from John O'Groats to Lands End (via Northern Ireland). 30 miles a day for 30 days (plus 5 rest days). From John O'Groats I walk almost 400 miles across Scotland to Stranraer. From Stranraer I will catch a ferry to Northern Ireland where I will walk 150 miles over 5 days. I will then fly from Belfast to Liverpool where I will walk the remaining 350 miles to Lands End.
So many of my friends have lost loved ones to Cancer but on a more positive note I have heard some amazing survival stories. I will be joined by friends along the way and every day we will walk in support or memory of someone affected by cancer.
Thank you so much for taking time to look at my page and sponsoring me. MacMillan nurses provided outstanding support when my Uncle was diagnosed and during his time in hospital.
