Story
Hi, thanks for visiting this page.
On May 31st we're running the Edinburgh Bartlett relay marathon. It's 26 miles split over four legs and we've entered into the female challenge. We've got until the end of the month to get fit, competitive and psyched for race day.
We're running to raise funds for a project by Rwanda aid.
Working in the remote South West region of Rwanda in the aftermath of the horrendous genocide in 1994, Rwanda Aid's mission is to bring relief to those who are struggling, especially orphans, widows, widowers, the sick or disabled, refugees and the very poor. At the same time it aims to build the capacity of people to escape poverty and build a more prosperous, healthy and fulfilling future for themselves and their country.
Rwanda Aid is a small charity.
As such, it has minimal administrative costs and is able to offer direct feedback to donors. It aims to set up projects which are sustainable and which encourage self-help, hard work, initiative and community spirit. It seeks to raise awareness in UK, especially amongst the young, of the needs and challenges of a developing country Rwanda Aid works closely with government and other agencies to agreed and shared aims. It undertakes a limited number of projects, but always striving to set the highest possible standards, providing a flagship for future development Current projects include a village for disabled children, AIDS outreach, welfare, school building, teacher training, and vocational training.
The current project, which fundraising from the run will go to is in memory of one of Rwanda Aid's founder Trustees and a distinguished vet who died last year. He not only brought his professional expertise to the organization but a heart which was totally comitted to supporting and helping others. In memory, Rwanda Aid is establishing a scholarship which will train veterinary surgeons in Rwanda.
It's a wonderful charity close to the heart and any donations will be so valued X
