TTR is a Christian charity transforming lives through Jesus with disabled people. We provide refurbished wheelchairs to disabled people in Africa; offer support groups; and holidays for disabled adults & families affected by autism. We also provide disability-related training and resources.

Story

The good deed is to give £40 to our Wheels for the World project. This could fit with saving £1 a day for 40 days of Lent, or it could be at any convenient time of the year. Through the Roof will then use your donation to do three good deeds by...

Saving an old wheelchair from landfill and taking it on to a second life.

Helping a prisoner to make a meaningful contribution to society giving those in Parkhurst prison workshop the opportunity of refurbishing wheelchairs to ‘as-new’ standard (sometimes even better!)

Changing the life of a disabled person, by giving the gift of a wheelchair or mobility aid and a Bible to someone in a developing country.

Wheels for the World is part of Through the Roof - The World Health Organisation reports 20 - 30 million disabled people need wheelchairs – most of these people will have a lack of hope or of the ability to purchase one. Wheels for the World restores and distributes refurbished wheelchairs, mostly to people in Africa, giving them increased independence and demonstrating the love of God in a practical way.

We send old NHS wheelchairs to a workshop in HMP Parkhurst for restoration to almost-new condition. Prisoners find great satisfaction in this work which helps restore their self worth and dignity.

The chairs are then taken on large distributions to developing countries, usually in batches of around 150. Working with our in-country partners, our teams of therapists and techies fit the chairs for each individual client - ensuring they get the best possible care, and the equipment that suits their needs.
