I've roped in a group of friends to push our fitness levels to the limit & take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in June this Year.
Doctors and nurses at Great Ormond Street Hospital battle a host of complex illnesses and treat children of all ages on a daily basis, some with extremely serious conditions. I would like to highlight the fantastic work they achieve and the relentless dedication they exhibit to support the families and help children get better so that they can live their lives to the fullest!
My overall aim is to raise awareness for a condition called sagittal craniosynostosis. This is something I had never heard of nor knew anything about. In short, it is a condition where parts of the skull fuse together too soon causing an abnormality to its shape. This in turn can interfere with normal growth of the brain and skull. There are no known causes of craniosynostosis & treatment can involve skull re-shaping surgery within the first months of life. There are different types of surgery depending on the age of child at diagnosis.
Thankfully, My son Sam was diagnosed at 4 months & referred directly to GOSH. A multidisciplinary team carried out 2 minimally invasive surgical procedures using an innovative spring assisted method to rectify the shape of his skull and re-open the fused areas. The whole team were fantastic with Sam and really looked after us during this difficult period. I can't express enough our gratitude for the support we received.
Due to this, i'd like to give a little something back if I can to thank them for all their efforts. Any donations you could give would be greatly received but a share also goes a long way in spreading some awareness for the condition and the great work they do at Great Ormond Street Hospital!
Thanks very much & wish us luck!!!
