4 Girls and 4 Walking Challenges - Walk the Talk for Mental Health UK · 5 September 2020

Mental Health UK works in schools, homes and workplaces to build a thriving UK where good mental health is prioritised. We challenge the systems and situations that hold people back, and equip them with tools and advice to unlock their full potential.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

We are a team of four work colleagues who have decided to combine
some exercise with supporting a very worthwhile charity
, Mental Health UK.  We all have personal reasons why this charity means so much to us and you can read a little more about them further down this page.

We have to complete four walking challenges throughout September – three qualifiers (5km, 10km & 15km) and a Grand Final (20km)!  We can walk or run the distances alone, with family, friends or with our four legged friends!  We just need to make sure we track them!

To ensure we stay on track and complete the challenges and secure a place for the Grand Final we would love donations please, any amount you can spare would be brilliant as every penny counts towards this
worthwhile charity 😊.

Mental Health UK is Lloyds Banking Group’s charity partner and this year we are raising funds for Bloom, which is Mental Health UK’s young peoples programme.  This UK-wide programme equips young people with the tools and knowledge to maintain their mental health through life’s transitions, both now and in the future.  The support Bloom gives young
people to build their mental health resilience can help to avoid deterioration in their mental health, and equip them for the challenges of everyday life.

So here’s a little more about us and why we’re getting involved:

Angela – I love walking. but this year with everything being closed down, not to mention the rain throughout most of July in Glasgow, my enthusiasm has been lacking.  This seems like the perfect motivation to be more active, especially for such a fantastic cause.   It is so important to raise awareness of the support Bloom provides for young people to
equip them with tools and knowledge to maintain their mental health both now but also to prepare them for the future.

Elaine – I’ve always loved walking and for years I had two dogs who loved at least a daily 5k walk/jog/run!  However with only one elderly dog now who prefers to plod round I’m missing my longer walks, so this is a great opportunity to increase my exercise. It’s also in aid of a charity which is very close to my heart as I’ve got a couple of friends who have lost young members of their family to mental health issues, so to raise funds and awareness for Mental Health UK whilst keeping fit is a no brainer for me.

Kloe – Over the last year I have become very lazy when it comes to exercise and thought this would be a great opportunity to get back into a healthy routine whilst rising money for such an amazing cause which
helps so many people on a daily basis. I have friends and family, including myself, who have experienced mental health issues so for me it is important to raise awareness for Mental Health UK and let people know it is ok to not be okay.

Kathryn – I’ve always enjoyed walking and in recent years have taken up running which I now love, so I’m hoping to complete these challenges by a running/walking combo!  Mental Health UK’s Bloom programme does a wonderful job working with young people; to think that 75% of mental ill health starts before a person’s 18th birthday is frightening, so the work that Bloom does to try and avoid mental health deterioration is really, really important.  Too many young people’s lives are cut short through mental ill health, so let’s try and do our bit to help – no matter how small, it makes a big difference! Thank you.

Thank you! 😊
