Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my attempt to raise money for Asha Nepal which is a human rights organization working for women and girls in Nepal. It supports projects to help those from abusive and exploitative situations such as trafficking into the sex industry and domestic labour. Its aim is to empower females through education, training and security, giving them a voice.

I plan to climb Mt. Everest, which is the highest mountain on Earth above sea level, and the highest point on the Earth's continental crust, as measured by the height above sea level of its summit, 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). Many consider climbing Mt. Everest to be the greatest human challenge. The average summit temperature in the month of May (considered to be the best time to climb) drops to a wind chill of around - 50° C. Before attempting Mt. Everest I intend to climb Mt. McKinley and Cho Oyu.

Then I plan to take part in Dakar Rally Moto class. Dakar Rally is considered to be the world's greatest motorsports challenge. It is the most challenging and amazing offroad and desert rally in the world. The Dakar Rally is a half-month marathon over 5500 miles (9000 km) raced through two countries (Argentina and Chile). Nearly 600 teams across three different divisions hammer their way over pavement, dirt, gravel, rock, mud, seawater, head-high grass and skyscraper sand dunes. Some race to win, some race to finish, others simply hope to survive. In some of the rally stages ambient temperature can exceed +50° C. Before attempting Dakar Rally I intend to participate in Baja 500,Baja 1000.

Then I plan to Ski South Pole. The journey spans an entire Antarctic season and traverses 730 miles (1170 km) from Hercules Inlet, on the edge of the frozen Antarctic continent, to the Geographic South Pole and it takes 50-60 days to complete depending on weather, snow conditions. Travel is by ski hauling all supplies, facing constant winds, fields of sastrugi and white-out conditions. It is considered to be extremely strenuous journey which includes skiing and climbing expeditions in the most remote corners of Antarctica, where physiological altitude may exceed 11,000 feet (3350m) for many days in a row, and temperatures may drop below - 50° C, with severe wind chill and storms.

Then I plan to take part in Ironman World Championship at Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It is considered to be the world's most spectacular endurance race. The race itself is grueling and intimidating. This classic test of stamina combines three endurance events — a 2.4-mile ocean swim, a 112-mile bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert, and a 26.2-mile marathon along the coast of the Big Island. One contributing factor that makes this race so difficult is the heat. On an average day where the temperature is about 85 degrees, the actual temperature could rise to +50° C. This is due to the sun reflecting off of nearby lava flows. Top athletes actually arrive weeks or even months in advance in order to acclimatise themselves to the dreadful temperatures. Before attempting (rather qualifying) Ironman World Championship I intend to participate in Ironman Canada and Ironman Florida.

Asha Nepal urgently needs funds for vital projects for exploited women and children in Nepal. Our main project in need is the Halfway House for women who were trafficked into sex slavery in India, and have been rescued and returned to Nepal. This home delivers safe accommodation, food, counselling and healthcare to about 60 women a year, and actively integrates them back into society and finds them employment. It was funded by a Foundation whose policy is to fund only for 3 years, and that source ended in December 2009.

We also need to find funds for 15 children from desperate situations who would otherwise be on the streets. Asha took over 100% funding this year but only has sponsorship for 2 children.

    * Full sponsorship of a child is around £750 to include rental of the home and all board, lodging and schooling.
    * The cost of supporting one trafficked woman at the Halfway House for up to six months (after which they are reintegrated into regular society) is £240
    * £10 pays for a full health check for each girl rescued from the brothels of India
    * £25 feeds and educates a child for a month
    * £50 pays Asha Nepal's medical costs for a month
