On Saturday 14 October, as the weather continues to deteriorate post summer, a small team of us will be taking part in ‘Exmoor 30:30’. Whilst a stroll across open moorland in mid-October may appeal to some, we’ve committed to take on 30 miles carrying 30lbs (not including food and water). The course will involve traversing rough moorland, some paths & tracks, a few short stretches of road and several streams & rivers.

Website quote: In a nutshell you will need to take the event seriously.  If carrying moderate weight over distance is not something which your body is used to, you will need to train.  We want competitors, not casualties. 

Despite the fact that  it will no doubt be an extremely difficult challenge, we’ll smash through it and raise important funds for the Royal British Legion who provide lifelong support for the Armed Forces community - serving men and women, veterans, and their families.

We are part of a wider effort, led by Sue and Chris Beadel the parents of late friend of Simon’s from his Royal Air Force days. Simon Beadel, a Corporal in the Royal Air Force at the time, unfortunately passed away 8 years ago whilst back from a tour of duty in Kosovo. His parents continue to celebrate his life and tirelessly raise money in his name, and it is for this cause and the wider support that the funds provide to serving and retired Armed Forces individuals and families, that we tackle the Exmoor 30:30 in October.

The cause remains as important today as ever. Whilst we may have reduced the presence of our armed forces abroad, there are plenty of troops still living the pain. Both physical and mental injuries need treatment; and it costs. If you would like to help us reach our target then any donations would be gratefully received.
