Story
The 2.6 Challenge is intended to support the general fundraising of UK charities, which has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled / postponed (such as the London Marathon) and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income.
As part of the 2.6 Challenge, our lockdown household will be running (possibly walking for the oldies!) continuously for 26 hours. Each member of the household will run for an hour before handing over to the next member.
QUARANTINE TEAM: David Comyn, Lucinda Comyn, Holly Comyn, Alice Comyn, Sam Worley, Ed Thompson
We'll be kicking things off early on Thursday (7th May) and running through the night until 9am on Friday (8th May).
All money will go towards Passage 2000. A charity that provides homeless people in London with the support to transform their own lives. Our sister, Emily Comyn worked for the charity for 2 years before moving to Singapore in March 2020.
The Coronavirus crisis has presented a serious threat to people rough sleeping or living in unsecure accommodation. Central London has the highest incidence of COVID-19 per capita rate than anywhere in the UK. Many of the homeless people that The Passage currently supports already had poor health and are unable to self-isolate; in addition, many of the services that rough sleepers would normally access for basic support have been forced to close due to COVID-19. The Passage has had to rapidly adapt their service-model to provide an emergency frontline response; they have sourced emergency accommodation for all clients so they can self-isolate as necessary; they are also working to provide a food delivery and laundry service 7 days a week as well as daily health checks and on-going emotional and resettlement support.
Our 2.6 Challenge fundraising efforts will go directly towards helping support The Passage's emergency response through COVID-19.
