** Although one of the worst Winters in recent memory, the group are still attempting the event. **

A group of personnel from 661 Sqn (www.661vgs.com) decided late one night to raise money for the very deserving charity of Help for Heroes (www.helpforheroes.org.uk). Due to various factors the only time that the whole team would be together was in the week of 5 Jan 10, only 5 weeks from the decision to complete a long distance walk.

It was decided to complete the West Highland Way (www.west-highland-way.co.uk), a 95 mile route from Fort William to Milngavie (North tip of Glasgow) over a period of 3 days in the middle of Winter in the Heart of the Scottish Highlands. The team will be unsupported over the full period of the trek and will be carrying everything they need with them, including accommodation!

The Team

Calum Law - Joined 661 Sqn some 12 years ago and has been with the RAF since 2002. Just back from Operations in Afghanistan flying the Tornado Gr4, he is looking at carrying out an instructional tour next. Previously completed the West Highland Way on numerous occasions over various time scales, but never before in the middle of winter.

Dave Murdoch - I was at 661 for 2 years, then left for a bit but has returned to the dark side recently! 4th year Politics student and a member of Glasgow University Air Squadron. My first West Highland Way and his first walk of any considerable distance. I will be the really sarcastic one moaning after 20 minutes of walking! I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Olly Carson - Has been with 661 Sqn for a little under 4 years now and is looking to join the Navy in 2010. The West Highland Way is a first for him, however he has completed several 3 or 4 day treks before in various parts of the Scottish wilderness and is looking forward to the challenge that lies in store with this particular one!

Ross Thompson - ...

Stuart Gorman - Been on 661 Sqn for 4 and a bit years and has selection for the RAF early 2010.  Recently finished at University with a bit of time on the University Air Squadron.  Has previously completed the West Highland Way many years ago, but not in such a time frame or in winter.
