Oriance Lungu is raising money for Oxfordshire Community Foundation

846 Challenge - Particpate, Donate and Nominate · 24 June 2020

Oxfordshire Community Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number 1151621) founded in 1995. It provides a practical and valuable alternative to setting up a registered charity or charitable foundation.

Story

In memory of George Floyd and in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, All Elite Boxing, MAW Boxing and Therapeutic Fusions are launching the 8:46 Challenge. We’re raising money for Black Minds Matter UK a mental health charity making mental health topics
relevant and accessible for all black people in the U.K. Black Minds Matter UK charity funds are hosted and managed by Oxfordshire Community Foundation. Please see the Black Minds Matter UK instagram and website for further information.

As many of you know, 8.46 has become a significant number in this movement as it’s how long police officer Derek Chauvin spent kneeling on George Floyd’s neck which led to his death.

We realise this is a financially difficult time for a lot of people. Give only if you can andif you can’t give please help us spread the challenge as far as possible.

We are asking you to:

RUN or CYCLE or WALK – 8.46km (or 8460 steps if you walk)

DONATE – £8.46 to Black Minds Matter

NOMINATE – 8 people to do the challenge next

(Use the tag #846BLMCHALLENGE)

It is important to support mental health services for the black community and challenge the stigmatisation of black people with mental health problems in the U.K. For example, black men are FOUR times more likely to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act than their white counterparts. Black people tend to receive higher doses of anti-psychotic medication than white people with similar problems and black people are also regarded by mental health staff as more aggressive, more alarming, more dangerous and more difficult to treat.

By supporting the work of Black Minds Matter, we can help those in black communities access treatment and raise awareness to break down stereotypes. Please give what you can and help us to support the vital work of Black Minds Matter.
