The Claire-Louise Ferris Memorial Trust British Finals Challenge   Hi my name is Lee Paterson, I’m a 50 year old weight training enthusiast & part owner of 99nutrition.  I had a few minor successes in competition back in the early eighties winning the junior southeast Britain & placing 3 in the lightweight Mr’s.  This was for the old EFBB federation run by Oscar State.  Due to the politics & favouritism i refused to go to the final & tried my luck with NABBA. The difference was unbelievable, it was a warm and friendly organisation geared to encourage young athletes and not just look after the chosen few. I was a finalist in their southeast Britain region and was sent a special award from Oscar Heidenstam the president on NABBA, He believed in me and he thought i could go all the way.  He took the trouble to travel to Chelmsford in Essex to watch me & my younger brother Lloyd (Ex British Champion) train. There eventually came a time when sadly I had a choice in life & that was my career (a psychiatric nurse) or my hobby (bodybuilding) and I chose the former much to my regret now. I would dearly love to have gone to the top for Oscar if not for myself, I loved that guy, he was an inspiration, in fact he meant the world to me and I was never able to pay him back for his help and support..  More than 10 years after his death I still miss him & I’m still riddled in guilt that I dropped the sport before I achieved anything..  I now help & encourage anyone & everyone that is willing to listen to me so maybe a little bit of him rubbed off on me, I feel a sense of achievement when I see the results in my customers. Recently I had a chance meeting with the world famous pro bodybuilder Patrick Nicholls and we instantly clicked.  I thought I had accumulated some knowledge over the years but just a short conversation with Patrick got me thinking “where have I been going wrong” that guy is amazing, his know how is on another level and unlike a lot of champion bodybuilders who keep their secrets to themselves Patrick is passionate about the sport and more importantly is willing to share his knowledge with others. Some of his achievements are - wining several junior and senior titles.  These included 7 time winner of Mr Barbados, 7 times winner of Mr Caribbean & Central America, Mr Addonis Mr Hercules and many more.  As a professional bodybuilder Patrick has given a great account of himself, competing amongst the best pro in the business his most memorable battle was the British grandprix 1991 going toe to toe with the rugged Vince Taylor and Dorian Yates most who witnessed the show thought it was between Vince and Patrick however this earned Patrick A place to the Olympia in 1992.  with over 40 years experience in physical culture nutrition and general fitness he is like a walking encyclopaedia once you get talking to him about the subject. Patrick is also qualified as a personal fitness training, sports injuries & massage therapist & gives advice on nutrition, weight management, contest preparation etc, etc.  At a time when I thought that I’m too old to get back into training he has thrown down a challenge to me that it is never too late and he can totally transform me if I listen and take his advice. I decided to take the challenge and am writing a blog which will be regularly updated.  The aim of the blog is to show what can be achieved with hard work & sound professional advice. Nervously I have submitted my before pictures (see below) and I will re-submit photos as the changes take place.  My starting weight is 15 stone having lost 2 stone due to illness in the past and having said that I was never able to get below this weight in the last 20 years. I love a challenge so I have taken up his offer so watch this space to see what “The Master” can do for me (or you)!! Patrick has assured me than he can get me in great condition again and he feels that after this first challenge I could possibly compete again. So now I’ve accepted his offer and the challenge is on. So how did we end up supporting the “Claire-Louise Ferris Memorial Trust” Back in the day my family were good friends with Mr Universe winner Wilf Sylvester who has now sadly pasted away.  A short while ago one of his best friends came into the shop for some supplements and he told me about the loss of his 21 year old daughter in a tragic car accident whose name was Claire. Wilf used to adore Claire and always referred to her as his princess..  The parents of Claire David and his wife Sue made a decision to keep her dance school going and in doing so set up the Claire-Louise Ferris Memorial Trust.  The aim of the trust was to purchase equipment for various schools, nurseries and for disabled children. Myself on behalf of 99 Nutrition were looking for a charity to sponsor to help motivate me to achieve my goal and to raise some extra money for the memorial trust.
