Story

Brodie Eaton was and will always be remembered as one of the kindest and most fun-loving souls ever to walk this earth, but on Friday the 11th of November 2016 he took his own life.

In his memory I will be raising funds for PAPYRUS, a charity which seeks to provide support, raise awareness, and campaign to influence national policy on the leading cause of the deaths of young people in the UK. Additionally, 50% of funds that I raise in person will go towards the Brodie's Bike Project at the University of West Scotland.

Planning this journey has been as much a way of coping with the loss of my best friend, as it is an appeal to stop the stigma and raise awareness of such tragic events. I will therefore be cycling from the University of West Scotland (Brodie's university) to the University of Bath (my university) as it is the journey I never got the chance to make to see him. From Bath I will then cycle across Britain and on to Luxembourg, the place we grew up and first met 16 years ago. The route is not yet finalised, but once it is I will post it up on this page.

In order to make this ride something even greater though, I would love it if any of you could do one of two things:

Firstly, during the course of my journey I will try and visit places that were significant to Brodie and myself. So, I encourage anyone who knew him to suggest similar places that are significant to you and Brodie, and I will try my best to accommodate them if they are not far from my route. Hopefully I will be able to create an album with pictures from these stops to give to his family at the end.

Secondly, regardless of whether or not you knew him it would be fantastic to have people join me, whether it is for 1km or 100km, in order to raise awareness and celebrate Brodie and others who were taken too soon. Also, for those of you who know me, I have always considered myself a "short-distance" athlete. As a result the furthest I have ever cycled continuously to date was a leisurely 50km. With the size of the task ahead of me, support would be great!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, and I ask that you donate to this fantastic cause! Hopefully I will see you out on the road when I start, which is provisionally set for the 5th of June with my goal to finish within 10 days!
