Pilot Gig Row along the Thames · 21 September 2019

COPS is a UK charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers and police staff who have lost their lives on duty to rebuild their lives. We aim to ensure that surviving family members have the help they need to cope with such tragedy and they remain part of the police family.

Story

Myself & 5 other Police Officers and a civilian will row the route of the Great River Race in a Cornish Pilot Gig.

The route is from London Docklands to Ham and is 21.6 miles in total.

Only 2 of the rowers have previous rowing experience so all will be putting in the effort to train before taking on this ‘River Marathon’.

Also rowing are: Rich Sainsbury, Richard Wilson, Roz Pool, Pete Jelly, Sarah Kelly and Dec Wilson.

A bit about the charity:

Care of Police Survivors (COPS) is a UK charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives in relation to their duty, to rebuild their lives.

COPS was founded in 2003, and since its foundation has helped hundreds of families devastated by the loss of a loved one. The charity aims to ensure that surviving family members have the help they need to cope with such a tragedy and that they remain part of the police family.

COPS is a peer support charity, enabling its beneficiaries (‘survivors’) from around the UK to support other survivors in practical ways. The charity arranges local and national events that enable survivors to build friendships and bonds that support them through the good times and bad.

Working with its partner organisations Winston’s Wish and Red Arc, COPS also provides specialist counselling support to bereaved families.
