Story

Martin Pilling, Richard Edwards, Andrew Sharp, and Darren Wells have now climbed the three highest peaks in  the UK! (Ben Nevis in Scotland – 1344m, Snowdon in Wales -1085m and Scafell Pike in England – 978m). They started their challenge on the 9th September and were joined by visiting colleagues from AusGrid (Australia) - John Hardwick and Joe Pizzinga – for the Snowdon climb. They have returned sore but alive and successfully made it up and down all three mountains! You can see their photos by clicking the link on the right hand side.

All monies raised will go directly to ‘Practical Action’ to support an electricity micro-generation project in Mozambique. Practical Action are an international development charity that uses both simple and sophisticated technology to change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. Once constructed, the hydro-electric generating station will harvest energy from the Chimedza River, supplying electricity to households, small businesses, a primary school and a clinic.

The scheme will have a massive impact upon the community; the provision of household lighting will allow children to carry out schoolwork in the evenings, increasing the effectiveness of their education. The availability of electricity will also have a massive impact upon their agricultural system by mechanising the crucial task of grain milling, vastly reducing production time. Another benefit is the ability to power a fridge in the local clinic, which will allow the storage of vaccines.

Your donation will ensure that a community who deserve the opportunity to help themselves will get it.
