Story
Thank you for visiting my 'Just Giving' page.
Blacklands Church, Hastings, is once again participating in the Ride & Stride event that's arranged each year by The Sussex Historic Churches Trust. I have taken on the role of local organiser and in a rash moment agreed to get my bike out and visit as many churches in the area as possible on the day, which is Saturday 14th September.
My own itinerary (disclosure: it will be by electrobike) will take me through meandering lanes to Winchelsea and Rye, then all the way along the coast to Bexhill and Cooden Beach before finishing back at Hastings. With diversions to cover nineteen churches (the number grows every time I get the map out), I calculate that the round trip will be over 50 miles, so managing battery power will be essential. I'll need it for the hills!
The SHCT provides grants to churches which are in need of repair and major maintenance and it relies wholly on Ride & Stride for its own funding. In 2017 we spent many thousands of pounds rebuilding the rear vestry (now the Rose Room) at Blacklands. The SHCT gave £7,500 towards this project, which emphasises what a worthwhile cause Ride & Stride is to sponsor.
