The Group Mentoring Project

The children attending the Group Mentoring Project have experienced difficult circumstance within their young lives.  These children may have witnessed domestic violence, bereavement or loss within the family, child poverty, ill health, bullying and been victims of anti social behaviour or crime.  Research has shown that experiencing significant life changing events before reaching adolescence has adevastating impact on children’s educational and social development and well being.

We believe that through providing opportunities which promote self worth and a sense of belonging through contribution and achievement the project has a positive impact on the young people’s lives and their families.

Raise Funds for Group Mentoring

One young person, who has attended for 2 years said the group makes her smile.  It is the only activityshe has outside of school.  She has experienced child poverty which has isolated her from socialising with her peers.  The Group Mentoring Project has provided positive experiences with her peers allowing her to gain awareness and understanding of different ways to live.   She has experienced a childhood creating happy safe memories, learning skills she can use all through her life.

One young person had witnessed domestic violence on her mum.  This experience had taken away her motivation in life and replaced it with fear.  Over the 18 months she found her voice and began to live her childhood whilst gaining understand of how the law and other significant adults in her life can support her and her mum.

One young lad had moved from the other side of England and had found this experience daunting.  His ability to cope with the move impacted on his school work and the relationship with his mum.  Over 18 months he experienced different activities with his peers which allowed him to explore different aspects of his life.  His school work improved and the relationship between mum and son grew stronger.

In a testimonial a School Teacher stated that one young person benefitted greatly from the Group Mentoring project.  The teacher described how during the time this child was at mentoring her ability to cope with school life and ways to solve problems with her peers improved significantly.  She was able to open up about her worries and learn how to act more appropriately in difficult situations.
