Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon on 24th April 2016 in aid of Muscular Dystrophy. My girlfriend Kiera, of two years suffers from a type of the disease called 'Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy'. Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a very rare muscle wasting disease which is used to describe over 60 various types of it, some being more severe than others. The worst case of MD is called 'Duchenne' which mainly affects boys and rarely see's people living past 30.

I am very passionate about raising money for MD as people shouldn't have to live with such a devastating disorder. Kiera was diagnosed with this horrible disorder when she was 9 - 10 years old. Before she was diagnosed she was very athletic playing sports ranging from football to gymnastics. Kiera and her family noticed something wasn't right when she kept falling over frequently and not being able to do the things she loved with ease. As she has got older her muscles in her arms and legs have become weaker, she now uses a wheelchair outside of the house to get around easier. As Kiera's muscles are weak, her family, friends and I help her with many things that other people would take for granted. She often feels bad, or like a burden when she asks the people around her for help and no one should feel like this. More than anything, everyone should be able to have full independence and unfortunately for many sufferers of MD this is not the case.

When I first met Kiera, I was very surprised at the way she was so positive and optimistic about everything considering how much she has been forced to go through from such a young age. Her motto is 'I'd rather laugh than cry about it'. You'll find that Kiera often makes jokes and fun out of herself which just lightens the whole situation. This is just one of the many things I love about her. She is an amazing girl with such a bright future ahead of her and her future could become even better if she was to get a cure. Your money could help change not only Kiera's life, but thousands of other sufferers too.

My goal is to raise as much money and awareness of Muscular Dystrophy UK to bring an end to muscle wasting diseases. In order for me to take part in the marathon, we need to raise a minimum of £1600 as I am doing this through the Muscular Dystrophy UK charity, not the ballot.

I would do anything to help change Kiera's life, all of your donations and help would be greatly appreciated.
