Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Pamela Mary Roberts-Wray, aged 63, (Ellie May) died peacefully in her sleep at the Countess Mountbatten Hospice near Southampton on Monday 7 November 2011.

Born 31 May, 1948, Nursling, on the outskirts of Southampton to Frances and Winifred (Winn) Lewis; she was educated at the village school and at Secondary School in Romsey. She started work at 16 and after a short while started at Northcliffe School as Nanny to Andrew and Ceri before becoming the School Secretary, Housekeeper and general organising force behind the school. Her formidable attention to detail and great people skills helped give the school a tremendously caring, family atmosphere. She complimented Peter’s skills and their partnership grew and blossomed into a love match of over 30 years.

Pam’s easy friendly manner won her many friends when they moved up to the Lake District after Peter retired from teaching, and then back down to Felpham. She continued to work as a highly efficient secretary and personal assistant at the YMCA and latterly the Health Service. She finally had to end her career to become Peter’s full-time carer, which she did with great love and affection as he succumbed to the cruel illness of dementia. She was particularly brilliant at caring for others and that was always the case with her grandchildren and nephews and nieces, of whom she was very proud and fond.

It is tremendously sad that, just as she was starting to get her life back after Peter’s death last year, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was cared for by her loyal friends Lyn and then Tina, who helped her to keep her great sense of humour and fun for as long as was possible.
