Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I feel humbled to recently have had the opportunity to visit a charity very close my family's and my hearts- The Guru Nanak Home.
The following pictures do not even begin to depict the outstanding work the staff and all those running the home do on a daily basis.
As well as providing the utmost care and giving their unconditional love to every child staying at the home, one of the most rewarding aspects of the home is that the staff are mostly past patients who are now happy and able, and most importantly, willing to help further patients as a gesture of their gratitude.
The homely ambience one receives entering the home clearly shows that every child staying in the home is part of a large, loving family.
The charity gives each child 3 hot meals a day and running, filtered water- far more substantial than what many of the patients get in their own villages.
As well as this and most commendable is that the charity's aim is to correct physically handicapped children with the hopes to integrate them back into society as healthy beings and this 'impossibility' is certainly made possible daily through the selfless and dedicated work of Dr. Anil Pandey and Dr. Sureshwar Pandey. Although watching a surgery may have been an uncomfortable experience for me, I'm so glad that I did, as it emphasised to me just how rewarding working at the home is and what can be done in a simple surgical procedure to completely change a child's whole life for the better.
Despite all of this, the main thing I will take away following my fascinating visit to the home, is a lesson taught to me by the children themselves; to always remain positive and smiling through anything and to never take life for granted, whatever life you have been given- enjoy it and always know that there is hope.
A characteristic which makes the GNTF even more special is that everything is done free of charge to the patients so it is run almost solely on donations.
A big thank you to all those who helped me to raise money to help contribute to a piece of physiotherapy equipment to aid the children in getting stronger.
Please get involved! Thank you x
