Hi!  My name is Abbie and I am 11 years of age.  My Grandad, better known as "Dadad" to me, passed away last summer due to cancer.  I want to help others, now and in the future, by raising money for Cancer Research UK.

What am I doing to raise money and why?

My Dadad taught me to swim on holiday when I was 5 years old.  Since then, I have loved swimming.  For the past 3 years I have been training in the swim squad at school and I now train 4 times a week for an hour at a time.  In September last year, just after Dadad passed away, I was made the Girl's Swimming Captain at my School and I felt so pleased that I had come so far, thanks to my Dadad teaching me to swim.

Swimming is my hobby and I couldn't think of a better way to raise money by pushing myself as hard as I can and to swim 10km or just over 6.2 miles in the shortest time possible over several 1 hour sessions.

I will be swimming these sessions during my swim squad training at school.  The sessions will be:-

• Tuesday 24th April at 7am - 8am
• Friday 27th April at 4.30pm - 5.30pm
• Monday 30th April at 4.45pm - 5.45pm
• Friday 4th May at 4.30pm - 5.30pm
• Tuesday 8th May 7am - 8am

Although we have set aside 5 sessions I am hoping to complete the 10km swim in 4 sessions.  That means I have to swim 2.5km in each session .... phew!  To support me with my swim and raising as much money as we can, George, the Boy's Swimming Captain at my School will also be swimming alongside me.
