Story

A great trip and a wonderful experience.

A great fundraising event for the Blue Cross.

Thank you to everyone who has supported with fundraising x

19 September 2010

Back in Cusco and starting the long trip back to the dear old UK. Tired? Aching? Dirty washing?
Fundraising continues until the end of October ...

14 September 2010

Abby has flown on from Lima to Cusco and after a couple of days spent acclimatising, experiencing the local life and haggling in spanish in the markets, the horse 'train' left Cusco this morning heading out into the Andes.
Abby sent a message which reached us this morning saying how excited she is at the prospect of the trip. She also said that the guides are very good.

11 September 2010

Abby left for Peru this morning and we last spoke to her at Amsterdam as she was boarding the flight to Lima. After much wrestling with the luggage to reduce the total weight below 20kgs, she also had the experience of passing through the new security scanning/search systems twice!! Once at Heathrow and again at Amsterdam. She was looking forward to enjoying a twelve hour sleep on the way to Lima having had no sleep for the past 24 hours.

Fundraising has gone very well and everyone has been very generous. Thank you to all who have helped. The remaining amount to reach the fundraising target needs to be raised by mid October and this will recommence when she returns in ten days' time.

Hello everyone! Here's the latest news on my fundraising efforts ...

UPDATE 26TH MAY

Thank you to all who contributed to the custard pie event - as you can see from the photos and the video it was a very messy ordeal, and boosted the funds considerably (surprise, surprise!) thus serving its purpose!

More good news has come my way which I must share with you - I can now confirm that another corporate sponsor has pledged to contribute to my fundraising - Diamond Build plc - to whom I am very grateful. Thank you very much!

After some careful (and painful) maths, I have calculated that together with the pledge from my other corporate sponsor, Beechwood CCS Ltd, I only have to raise a further £700 to reach my fundraising target!

So ... I would like to do another jeopardy event like the custard pie-ing to raise funds. Please feel free to leave suggestions of ideas for this.

I would also like to thank everyone who has helped me with their personal donations, these contributions have helped enormously in getting me to the point I am now at.

Thank you all

(However, I am always happy to receive more! =D )

Photos now up from custard pie-ing! To see the whole collection please visit the facebook group =)

CUSTARD PIE THE ABBY DAY APRIL 4TH FAREHAM LEISURE CENTRE

£1 a pie, if you can't make it, please donate your money on here, and someone will throw the pie on your behalf! Pics will be following shortly after, thank you to all!

Facebook group now up and running! =) http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=info&gid=351135490557

....Right here goes.......   This page is my 21st birthday present!  Since the age of 14 I've been working with and for charities, since the age 7 I've been around horses and since the age of 16 I've wanted to go to Maccu Piccu, so my family decided that they'd bundle all three together and here we are!  This has been kept a secret from me for the past few months, I've been banned from using my Mum's computer!

First of all my pledge to you, I am planning to raise a total of £3,000 for this charity.  The final challenge when we hit this benchmark is that I am going to Peru for 10 days and doing endurance riding, its not for the faint hearted!  (http://www.bluecross.org.uk/web/site/Activechallenges/Peruvian_horse_trek.asp)

However, along the way, at every £500 benchmark I am going to do something completely stupid to celebrate!

I have started a facebook group for suggestions of things I can do to promote this. Once we have some ideas, I will create an opinion poll and post the link on here!  Once you have all agreed, I will video it and post a link to youtube for everyone to see.  I only have one rule, absolutely no nudity!!!!  All of you, please feel free to post your suggestions on here too, I will monitor this profile as well in order get everyone's opinions, bring on the first benchmark!

Secondly, I'd like to introduce you to the Blue Cross Animal Welfare charity.  This charity exists solely on generosity, they aren't government funded.  They provide the whole package, rescuing and rehoming small animals, veterinary care for those who can't afford it, and they look after and rehabilitate horses too! It's rare for a charity to do all this, normally they specialise in small animals or equine care.  If I'd been aware of this previously, my horse would've gone to these guys, then maybe he wouldn't have been passed from pillar to post over the last few years.  If I could I'd have him back in a heartbeat!

      • Things that your money will help with:
      • £25 to provide vaccinations that will protect a puppy against life threatening illness
  • £19.11 a week to keep a dog’s kennel warm
  • £84.12 to provide the veterinary care needed by a cat
  • £35 to pay for a course of vaccinations to protect a horse or pony’s health
  • £230.53 to care for a dog during its stay in one of their adoption centres
  • Up to £840 to provide hay and bedding for a horse over winter

Thank you to all of you who donate x

NB. I have to raise all this money by the end of July!! Eeek!
