Story

Hi friends!

Ronnie and I have good friends in Uganda, Abby and Wilber, who need some assistance! Abby is the mother to Raniah, one of the sweet girls who has been staying with us for the past 3 years. Abby and Wilber love all of our kids so much and have been like a mother and father to them!

In late 2017, Abby and Wilber became pregnant with their son, Abdiel. Abby had a healthy pregnancy and was receiving prenatal care at a local clinic. Abby went into labor in April 2018 at 40 weeks and delivered a stillborn baby boy. It was a devastating and traumatic birth! The doctor said Abby suffered a placental abruption, and he could not get the baby out in enough time. Abby and Wilber were extremely heartbroken at the loss of their first baby boy.

Around late 2018, Abby found out she was pregnant again...with twins! She is due on April 3 (my birthday)! We have discussed with Abby the importance of receiving great prenatal care, but her main concern is the cost. Abby is planning to delivery via c-section at Nsambya Hospital, which has the necessary equipment, supplies, and neonatal facilities. It costs about $60 per prenatal visit and $600 for the cost of c-section and a four day postnatal stay in the hospital. This doesn’t include any medical supplies and necessities for the c-section, wound dressings, medications, and neonatal care, if necessary. Therefore, we’re aiming to raise $1,500 to cover the cost of everything.

At 336 deaths per 100,000 live births, Uganda’s maternal mortality rate is still among the highest on the continent and in the world. Ronnie and I have seen the effects of this all too often, so we’re asking for your support in changing one mother’s story. Please join us in supporting our dear friends and a healthy delivery for Abby and their twin babies!
