We work on strengthening education to build a Sierra Leone free from poverty

Story

Stockport Grammar School is launching a sponsored Marathon in May, where students, teachers and parents will be taking part in a running/walking challenge to raise money for Educaid who provide education in Sierra Leone. Approximately 60% of Sierra Leoneans live below the national poverty line. They rank amongst the worlds poorest nations, ranking 180 out of 187 in the Human Development Index. More than 60% of Sierra Leoneans live on less than $1.25 a day. Around 70% of the youth are unemployed or underemployed. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of formal education to provide skills to compete for the limited jobs available. This is where Educaid comes in, running 8 school sites across the country, a national teacher training programme, as well as a first stride into higher education, they have set up a good start to young people lives. These challenges are of varying difficulty, from 10 miles a month to 35 miles to month, so everyone can get involved and have some fun in the sun! https://www.educaid.org.uk/what-we-do/
