I signed up to the RideLondon-Essex 100-mile bike ride on a whim, as a personal challenge. But during training earlier this year I also volunteered for The Student View, which runs pop-up newsrooms and media literacy sessions for schools across the UK. As a journalist I know how crucial it is that young people have the tools to sift fact from fiction and truth from falsehoods online. It’s also the kind of organisation that can always benefit from donations, however small. If you've ever found a news story useful or insightful, do help ensure the next generation have that chance as well. 

I finished the ride in 5 hours 35 mins (6 hours if you include comfort breaks). That was faster than I bargained for - and surely is worth giving to a good cause?
