Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This challenge is to try to raise as much money as possible for one of our local charities -- Friends of Kennel Lane. Friends of Kennel Lane help children and young people with special educational needs.

This summary will be added to in the coming days when I hope to meet some of the staff and children who are interested in this little adventure.

The challenge is the Marathon Des Sables 2016. This is the opening summary on their website:

"Known simply as the MdS, the race is a gruelling multi-stage adventure through a formidable landscape in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates - the Sahara desert. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back everything except water that you need to survive. You are given a place in a tent to sleep at night, but any other equipment and food must be carried."

This event consists of running/walking over 150 miles in 5 days in some very non-English whether. If you type MdS in google there's plenty of information. I would particularly recommend searching for James Cracknell - MdS into YouTube for a interesting 1 hour video.

This sponsorship will make a difference to Friends of Kennel Lane and it would be great to help them bring in some new sports equipment for the children.

At the time of writing this I've been training for around 6 months and the event is in 5 weeks. The competitors fly out to Morocco on the 8th April and the race starts on the 10th. I've lost count of the miles covered in training -- but it's in the hundreds and I've also lost count of the numerous strains and injuries along the way.

The typical race schedule is:

Day 1 - 22 mile

Day 2 - 22 mile

Day 3 - 22 mile (lots of sand dunes)

Day 4 - 60 mile

Day 5 - 26 mile (final competitive day)

Day 6 - 8 mile charity run (no -- i'm not joking)

Thanks for your support - it will be needed,

Adam
