I have glaucoma, but I am lucky. I have received treatment and am unlikely to lose my vision. It would have been a different story had I been living in a developing country with a poor health system. Even if I was lucky enough to be diagnosed in time, I would not have been able to afford the eye drops or the operation to control the disease. 

Sightsavers is supporting skills and institutions in developing countries to tackle glaucoma and other treatable eye diseases. I don't want to dwell on this as we celebrate my birthday, but if you were planning to give me a gift, could you please donate instead to Sightsavers?
