Adrian (Ade) Burt was born in 1964 at Dartford, Kent. Adrian loved the outdoors, wildlife, animals and engineering too.

At 9 months old Ade was taken for his first seaside holiday and when he was put down on the sand, he immediately headed for the sea. Returning for many years, Adrian always enjoyed exploring the rock pools. He and water have been inseparable ever since.

As a child, Ade wanted to be involved in everything from cooking to using the hoe, to taking the hammer to help bang a post into the ground, to helping dust the house, though he soon went off housework! Ade would take his toys apart to see how they worked and once he had found out he lost interest in actually playing with the toy. He played with his younger brothers and enjoyed time with his grandparents. He had many happy visits making things in the shed with his Grandad, a former shipwright.

From about twelve years old, he spent many happy hours fishing at the local lakes. He would take his camping stove and all of his mum’s stock of sausages, bacon, eggs and bread etc. to cook breakfast for himself and his mates, having stayed all night. He was very good at fishing and caught large Pike, Carp and Tench. His part in family holidays then consisted of being dropped miles down an unmade road near a river and left to fish for the day.

Ade was the Butcher's boy at the local shop after school and at weekends. What he learnt at the butchers and from his mum gave him a lifelong interest in cooking. Nothing phased him, he was always first on the scene to help at an accident on the pedestrian crossing outside the butcher’s shop. Adrian had previously joined the Cubs, enjoying learning and earning the badges for various subjects and really enjoyed the Army Cadets and Venture Scouts. Adrian also helped as a Rally Race Marshall.

Ade soon got into music and ran a mobile disco for parties, weddings, scout groups and the nurses homes at the local hospitals. He enrolled at The Merchant Navy College, Greenhithe where he did his Seamanship training and studied electronics. He decided to leave before the final year as he just wanted to get involved in the outside world. Ade and his friends ran more discos together. Ade’s new love of boats was put to use when they ran the ‘safety rescue boat’ for inshore yachting races; though their boat was often under repair in the back garden.

For a first ‘proper’ job, Ade was manager of the electrical department at Woolworths in Dartford. Soon Ade got a job in London, fitting lights in theatres and concert halls. He worked on the Berkeley Square Ball each year and the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet tours in London, lots of trade fairs, and new car unveilings and televised sport events. Ade worked on the famous Peugeot ‘Take My Breath Away’ TV advert, complete with exploding fields of fire. He met and worked with many celebrities and music stars over the years. The only thing he didn't like was sometimes being required to wear a dinner suit instead of the normal crew outfit of jeans and t-shirt.

Ade worked all over the world from America to Australia including Vietnam, Singapore and most of Europe. He usually stayed a few extra days for sightseeing, meeting the local people and tasting the local food. More recently, he loved to watch the Saturday morning TV cookery programmes, and gather the ingredients to make the recipes. He enjoyed many types of food from his travels around the world.

Wherever possible in the UK, his beloved rescue dog Charlie would accompany him. In difficult times Charlie was always there for him. Ade moved to Cornwall in 1999. Ade loved the fresh air and freedom, enjoying the countryside, wildlife and particularly fishing. He and Charlie would spend hours exploring the great outdoors.

Ade worked for many years as a Technical Director at the Eden Project and helped enable many concerts and outside broadcasts or features of TV programmes. In recent years, Ade has worked as Technical Director at the Wyldes on the Leopallooza Festival, helping it become a major regional festival site, attracting global headline acts and entertaining thousands of people. Using all his knowledge and experience he designed the main stage - which is quite amazing - and installed electrics for the camp site.

Ade loved his adopted County of Cornwall and always told his family about the many good friends he had there. His family have found that almost everyone in and around Bude seemed to know him. He was always willing to support friends and help strangers and he loved the community in Cornwall who welcomed and helped him so much over the years.

Ade passed away suddenly in mid March ‘22 due to a stroke, aged only 57. He has certainly filled his short life with many travels, adventures and experiences - entertaining many of us with his stories over the years. Ade has left a legacy of things created, mended, people helped and special memories for many who love and miss him very much.
