Story

UPDATE:  After 14 weeks of walking the length of England and Scotland we finally reached John o'Groats on Friday 30th September, to complete our end-to-end charity walk. Impressively not a single pound of weight was lost! It was an experience that far exceeded expectations, but certainly something we aren't contemplating doing again anytime soon! Even with the lack of a summer to enjoy, raising money for such a good cause as Association for International Cancer Research helped to pass the miles and motivate us. Thanks to everybody who has donated and supported us throughout our challenge.

On 25 June, 2011 we are embarking upon a 1160 mile, 3 month walk from the southern most point in England, Land's End, to the northern most point in Scotland, John O'Groats.

The United Kingdom is blessed with immense beauty. What better way to see it, than by walking the length of this island and allowing Candace (who is American) a closer glimpse of British life. We will update on the progress of our walk on twitter @AandC_walk_GB, on our own facebook pages (Adrian Livingstone and Candace Livingstone) and on Adrian's blog: http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/ShadyAdy

Of course we don't want to do all of this walking for nothing. We are raising money for the Association of International Cancer Research. AICR funds the best cancer research projects, regardless of where in the world they are located. They currently fund 207 cancer research projects worldwide. You can find out more information about our chosen charity at http://www.aicr.org.uk/.

As both of our families have been affected by cancer in the past this is a very personal cause for us. Candace is doing this walk in memory of her paternal grandparents and in honor of her mother. Her Grandpa Walt passed away at the end of 2010 after battling angiosarcoma. Six weeks later his wife, Candace's Grandma Mary Lou, also passed away (she had suffered with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and pancreatic cancer). In 2007 Candace's mother, Liz, was diagnosed with breast cancer but thankfully finished her treatment and went into remission soon before Adrian and Candace's wedding in 2008. Adrian is doing the walk in memory of his Grandma Val who passed away from breast cancer and to support Candace in the rememberance of her grandparents.

Our goal is £2500 (about $4100), approximately £1 (~ $1.60) each per mile to be walked. We're hoping that all our friends, families and anyone who has been affected by cancer will give generously to support what we think is a more than worthy cause. Thank you in advance for any donations you can give us.
