Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.

On November 28th 2021 our wonderful amazing Dad Adrian or Jed as everyone knew him was diagnosed with Terminal Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. This was absolutely devastating news as for 10 years previous to this he had been caring for our lovely mum who has both dementia and Alzheimer’s. We had all made the decision that Dad needed a break from the caring and Mum was placed in a local Dementia Home in Warwick close by.

Dad started to have tummy and  back aches and we all put it down to the stress. The Doctors kept telling him to change his diet etc but myself and my sister knew something was wrong as Dad never ever complained about anything. We eventually persuaded him to go to A&E where eventually one lovely Doctor listened and the horrendous diagnosis was made.

For my Dad he knew this was a quick, aggressive and painful cancer as his Dad had also died of this dreadful disease. For the family we had no idea what was to come. In the UK, around 10,000 new cases of pancreatic cancer are diagnosed each year and it has the lowest survival rate of all common cancers – only around 5% of those diagnosed survive for five years or more.

On Friday 18th February 2022 at 7pm in the evening, 12 weeks after diagnosis our Dad passed away in our arms, pain free. All he wanted was to die not in pain and for that we will be forever grateful to all the staff at Myton Hospice in  Warwick. For 9 weeks my Dad was in the most excruciating pain and myself and my sister cared for him with the help of the community teams. Nothing worked and the emotional and physical pain took it’s toll on all of us. We were so lucky a bed came available at the local hospice where he could get his pain under control….. he was never able to leave. The care my Dad got at the Hospice was above and beyond anything we could have ever wished for. They not only controlled his pain physically but supported him emotionally and spiritually as they did all of us. My dad decided he didn’t want a funeral but to raise as much money as he could for this wonderful place to say Thank you for everything they did for him and for us. Even after he passed away they never left his side until we felt the time was right.

Myself and my Sister would like to invite you,  if you so wish, to honour my Dads wishes, and help us raise the much needed funds to support this wonderful place. Please use this page to donate.

Thank you so much to all of you for being part of our Dads life and remember him as the wonderful, funny, full of life, amazing Man that he was. We love you Dad… now and forever more xxx
