Story
Rather than make a new page we thought it would be great to restart this one. This year marks 22 years since the genocide took place in Bosnia. (read our story below). We are pleased to share that this year's theme is solely based on women and their untold stories.
Kada Hotic- Vice president of The Mothers of Srebrenica stated
"the men that were killed- they were destroyed quickly. we women... we were also destroyed, but left to die slowly. Life without joy isn't life."
22 years on and women are still turning up to the limited trauma centres in Bosnia which not always have the space or specialist support needed to help women after the most horrifying ordeals.
Please help us to support them the best we can.
Background
last year.. January 2016
21 women from Manchester consisting of Luna Foundation, and The Women of Faith went out to visit Bosnia, meeting survivors of sexual violence and rape, and those who survived the war and genocide. We had the honour to meet with organisations and people who are working tirelessly to help rebuild lives of those who still suffer from the traumas of the past, helping survivors with closure, and those fighting for peace and justice.
A humbling and life altering experience, we saw footage of some of the brutal and mindless violence that took place, the sheer desperation of people as they sought escape and safety, and witnessed the graves of those who were wiped out on mass.
We ask you to dig deep and support Remembering Srebrenica for their phenomenal work in ensuring that this dark part of history does not fade or become forgotten. 21 years on there are still 1000's who remain unaccounted for, still remain unidentified and many families have not been able to bury their loved ones.
For justice, and for future peace, we cannot remain silent.
We thank you in advance for your support.
