Het is nog steeds mogelijk om te doneren, dus help de weeskinderen en geef steun! Nogmaals bedankt en tot ziens! Oftewel: Asante na Kwaheri!Jambo Jambo! Kili Challenge 2010 The last months we, Jerome Coenen en Bas Strikkers, have committed ourselves to the HIV orphans without future in East of Africa. Due to this we have raised more than GBP 8.600 which will fully benefit VSO (Voluntary Services Oversea), the organization that divides these funds over several charity projects. For these funds we have climbed the Kilimanjaro, the highest independent mountain on earth. We have completed this mission together with 27 other Accenture colleagues. All together we have raised more than GBP 108,000! Our journey started on Wednesday August 25th as we travelled to Nairobi (Kenya). We arrived in the evening. The next day we visited the Lea Toto program, one of the projects supported by VSO. The program’s objective is to give hope to the HIV orphans by providing them a more stable environment and support them with education, medication and nourishment. It was fulfilling to see that these children are given hope and future in their young lives due to the caring of the Lea Toto program. After this exceptional experience we had to live up to our commitment. We departed to Tanzania by bus. We arrived in Arusha where we stayed in a nice hotel. This will be our last night with a shower and clean clothes. With good spirits we left the next day to Rongai – National Park Gate. This was our starting point to reach the final summit of the Kilimanjaro. As of 3.500 meters altitude a few participants within our group started to show first symptoms of altitude sickness. But the real big test was during the “summit night”. We had to set our alarm at 23.00hr and next climb for 9-9 hours to the ultimate top: Uhuru Peak at 5.895 meters. We made it!! Although it must be mentioned that the last 200 meters were extremely tough due to the low oxygen level (<50%). Summary: an experience never to forget and we recommend this to all to undertake! Last but not least a special thank you to all donations received! Jerome Coenen en Bas Strikkers
