Bath Half Marathon 2012 · 11 March 2012 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I'm running the Bath Half-Marathon to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.  Why?  Because I'm interested in brains and I think dementia research tends to get overlooked in favour of more photogenic charities.  But the fact is that over 650,000 people in the UK currently have dementia and that number will rise over the next few years as we all keep on living longer (source).  Its a pretty miserable thing to live with and it's very hard on those who care for those who have it.  Which, in my book, makes it reasonable to want to do something about it.

Any donation you make is going to do some good, no matter how small.  If you aspire one day to be old, think of it as a sort of insurance policy.

I am, by the way, also doing this because I enjoy running.  Or, at least, I enjoy how it feels when I stop.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
