The University of Birmingham is committed to finding solutions to global challenges, including cancer, global infection and the development of our future leaders. As one of the broadest reaching charities in the UK, we are tackling issues that affect us all.

Story

We are fundraising in support of a very brave young girl.

Isobel was diagnosed on 27th February 2014 at just 3 yrs 10 months old, with Neuroblastoma a rare childhood cancer. She was currently undergoing intensive treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

We are organising various fundraising events to raise funds for the Cancer Center appeal at Birmingham Children's Hospital and the much needed research into Neuroblastoma at Birmingham University.

Research within the Mussai laboratory at Birmingham University is being conducted by Dr Francis Mussai, Clinical Senior Lecturer/Consultant in Paediatric Oncology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. His laboratory is focussed on the interaction between childhood cancers and the immune system. In collaboration with a small pharmaceutical company, and scientists at the University of Birmingham, the Mussai laboratory is developing new drugs to starve cancer cells of nutrients, and secondly to reactivate the immune system to kill cancer cells.

Although this valuable research is too late for Isobel but we need to help others.

So please remember every penny counts!
