After a 7-month journey on the stroke wards at Bournemouth and Poole and the Acute Brain Injury Unit (Poole), dad became very unwell and sadly passed away on Sunday 15 January at 12.57am.
Dad was incredibly strong but sadly after a shower of strokes and seizures, he became vulnerable to infections like pneumonia, flu and any type of respiratory infection. While this is how dad died, friends and family will know that dad's heart was broken 2 years ago when our mum, Carol passed away.
We are holding dad's funeral next week and know he wouldn't want people to spend money on flowers, but would instead like to see donations go to a cause that can make a difference to more people that need the support he did.
Dad started off in intensive care in what was almost a coma for his first few months but during dad's therapy afterwards, there was one piece of equipment that really woke him for us and this was the tilt table.
The University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is currently fundraising for two robotic tilt tables so that their therapists can provide safe and effective early rehabilitation to some of their most unwell patients.
One of the key factors in dad's recovery was to start rehabilitation in a vertical position as soon as possible and this really helped him. Had dad not been so vulnerable to other infections, we know equipment like this would have helped his recovery.
This equipment is expensive but will be life-changing for patients who are recovering from stroke and working hard to rebuild their lives. There is more information about the Tilt Table Appeal using the link below if you'd like to read more.

In the meantime, please leave a donation in dad's memory to help make a real tangible difference to people. We can't thank hospital staff enough for helping us and helping dad during this time.
Please leave your name so we know who the kind donation has come from. You can also add Gift Aid to boost your donation.
