The charity supports the only haemodialysis centre in the Gambia with dialysis and medical equipment and consumables desperately needed in order to provide free lifesaving dialysis treatment to the increasing number of patients. We also provide staff training and raise awareness about kidney disease

Story

Thank you for visiting my British 10K London Run, just giving page. Please sponsor me online - it's quick, easy and totally secure.

In October 2012, my mother, Ida Bass was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. She started dialysis with six months. At the time, the Gambia only had 5 semi-functional dialysis machines to serve the length and breadth of the country with very high patient mortality rate.

After seeing the condition of the centre during a trip to the Gambia, my sister Sailey decided to setup the Ida Bass Kidney Foundation to improve kidney care services in the Gambia.

Unfortunately, my mother never benefited from these improvements as she passed away in September 2013 due to lack of adequate dialysis treatment she desperately needed to stay alive.

In September 2015, the charity commissioned a 12 bed haemodialysis centre, which is fully functional providing poor kidney patients in the Gambia with desperately need lifesaving dialysis treatment.

Therefore, this race is to raise money towards buying consumables to ensure patient receive regular dialysis treatment in the new centre as well as setting up another centre  in the Gambia.

Thank you.
