Story
Unfortunately having to adjust to life in our care wasn’t the only problem Akeira was living with… when she was 6 months old she was injured in a car crash, breaking her front leg. She had the leg splinted by a Vet and was a risk of future amputation.
When she came into our care her leg damage had caused a severe growth deformity, where one bone in the leg had fused together and stopped growing, whereas the second bone had carried on growing since the crash creating a bowed effect in her leg making her foot and elbow point in the wrong direction.
Our team at Jerry Green Dog Rescue along with our Vet have reached the decision that to amputate her leg would be the best course of action to ensure that Akeira lives her life without pain and the side effects of long term medication and the chance to run and play without restriction.
We are confident she will adapt quickly to losing her leg and without the damaged leg, she won’t require potential ongoing surgery to manage the deformity in as she ages. We can’t wait to see her able to play and have a good run around without her damaged leg restricting her. Akeria will be cared for during her recovery period by one of our fosterers.
Her operation and aftercare will cost Jerry Green Dog Rescue approximately £600 and we are appealing for help for Akeira. If you can make a donation, no matter how much, it would go a long way to helping us continue to provide care and support for Akeira.
