Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I suffer from Crohn's disease and possibly always have done, it's only in recent years that I've had to make lifestyle choices based on my illness.
I am one of the lucky one's and can generally manage this chronic illness through a careful diet and limiting my levels of stress, nevertheless fatigue plays a major part in my life. Fatigue is little understood; true fatigue cannot be fixed with a couple of early nights as is regularly suggested to me - my body doesn't absorb and process nutrients as it should!
My main wish through undertaking this massive challenge (just over 310 miles) is not to raise money, although this of cause is much needed, but to raise awareness for family, friends, colleagues and the general public - I can't change the world but I can make a small difference!
There is no known cure for Crohn's or Collitis disease it is not known what causes it, it is not infectious and is probably hereditary; although it is much more common in the western world and affects a higher number of shift workers than not.
Before I was diagnosed with Crohn's I did do a lot of cycling, notably Lands End to Leicester in 2 weeks and Leicester to London in a day but I have struggled since then to remain fit and strong enough to undertake such a challenge, so I am under no illusions that this combined with the heat will be difficult but also massively rewarding. THANK YOU
