Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

I am doing this in memory of my Mother and best friend Catherine Banks, who passed on a few years ago from ovarian cancer.

It is never easy to lose someone and there is no right age for someone to die. Cancer makes it all the worse because of the way it takes them. Being told that you are going to die is unmanageable to most, but to have to tell your family that there is nothing doctors can do, when it takes everything from you and you still have the courage to keep fighting. To me, that is amazing.....and that was my Mum.

Standing at only 4 foot 9 inches tall, she was the strongest person I have ever met, the strongest person I will EVER have the honour of being alive with and the reason why I am doing this. I am lucky to have been brought up by such a kind, strong, loving and caring woman.  Not until she was gone did I realise she was the strongest link in the family chain! I will never forget her and I will never forget the support that Marie Curie gave her.

If you can donate to this fantastic group we would really appreciate it. Every penny really does make a difference to this amazing group of people.

Thank you for reading and thank you Mum for making me who I am.

Love you and miss you always x x x x x x x x x x x

Alastair

Hi All,

This September, Alastair and I will be trekking along the Great Wall of China to raise money for Marie Curie, a cause that is very close to both our hearts. I am trekking in loving memory of my Grandad, a man who was not only a hero for his country, but a hero for his family. A man who greeted every situation with humour (and usually a silly hat!). A man who taught me how to dunk biscuits, walked my pushchair for miles, fed ducks with me and befuzzled me for years with his 'two little dickie birds' trick.

The care that Marie Curie provided meant that my Grandad could spend his final days at home, with his family. The nurses came to care for him daily, not just as a patient, but as a person.

For a man who was everything a man should be.

Laura
